A walk to the Black Sea - Aug. 30, 2006

Vlad, Vera and Peter in front of the Theater of Musical Comedy on our walk to the Black Sea.

On the side of this Soviet-era building someone has spray-painted "Go, Yushchenko."

The old gate to the beach still stands at 17 French Boulevard, near the house where Vlad grew up.

Peter and Vera wave from their gondola on the ride down to the beach. Construction is everywhere along the beachfront and real estate prices are skyrocketing.

Vlad and I and Vera and Peter stop for a beer on the seawall overlooking the Black Sea.

Vlad next to a vacant hot dog stand.

One of the many stray cats co-exists comfortably, as they all do, at the seaside bar.

Peter and Vera lead the way back up the hill to the city.

A hay truck rolls down the street on our way home.

A woman goes through trash from someone's renovation project. People leave all kinds of things on the street. It's their Goodwill store.

Some traffic cops juxtaposed with a tractor on a street near Tanya's.
